Varanasi, the spiritual hub of India, where there is plenty to do, just as there is plenty of time to sit on the ghats and watch life go by. This man sits and waits. He has his tin pail which is used as an indicator that he accepts offerings, often with a preference of money. However if you are more interested in the ‘plenty to do’ side of things you will not be disappointed. You can visit the local crematorium, a huge part of everyday goings on in Varanasi. Stop in at different fabric making stores, buy some beautiful, scarfs, throws, you name it, or just learn about the silk making process. Take a boat ride of the Ganges. Eat the local cuisine, although it’s always a ‘I’ll take my chances’ scenario in India. As always, stopping and chatting with the locals is always a satisfying experience.
